Professor Nicholas Procter is Chair: Mental Health Nursing and leader of the Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Research Group at the University of South Australia. Working as a Communities of Practice, the research group brings together people with lived experience, carers, clinicians, policy makers and academic faculty. The group’s work is inspired by the real world problems of people living with mental distress, the needs of carers, and the next generation of health professionals willing and able to support recovery with dignity. Deep scholarship, deep connectivity and diffusion of the insights – all within a recovery approach – are central elements of the group’s community engagement strategy.
Professor Procter has been a chief investigator on nearly AU $9m of grant funding since 2014. He has completed advanced training in violence triage with the International Association for Forensic Mental Health Services and as a Psychological Autopsy Investigator with the American Association of Suicidology.
